Four Questions That Actually Narrow the List

1. Branch first, or college first?
This is the decision most families get backwards. A core branch at a stronger-brand college and a computing branch at the next college down are genuinely different bets, and the management quota fee gap between CSE and a core branch at the same institution is usually larger than the gap between two colleges. Decide which one you are unwilling to compromise on before you look at a single fee figure.
2. What is the four-year cost, not the first-year cost?
Quoted management quota figures are annual. Multiply by four, add hostel and mess if the campus is far from home, and add the fee revision that the state approves periodically. A seat that looks affordable in June often is not the same number by the fourth year.
3. How far is the daily commute?
Bangalore traffic makes this a real academic variable, not a lifestyle preference. A central campus like BMSCE’s Basavanagudi location is reachable from most of the city; a north-side campus is a very different daily proposition if you live in the south. Either decide to take a hostel seat, or weight location heavily.
4. Which placement number are you looking at?
The highest package quoted by any college is a single outlier offer. The number that describes your likely outcome is the median, ideally the NIRF-submitted one, and ideally broken down by branch. Ask for that figure specifically — a college that will not give it is telling you something.
