COMEDK engineering colleges are private unaided engineering colleges in Karnataka that admit a share of their students through the COMEDK UGET exam and centralised online counselling. Many of Bangalore’s best-known private colleges, including RV College of Engineering, BMS College of Engineering, Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering and Sir M. Visvesvaraya Institute of Technology, admit students through COMEDK. COMEDK is open to eligible students from every state, and its fee is higher than KCET but lower than management quota. The official list of participating colleges and the round-wise seat matrix are published on comedk.org.
What COMEDK UGET Is
COMEDK stands for the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka. For engineering, it conducts the Undergraduate Entrance Test (UGET), a computer-based exam in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, and then allots seats in participating private unaided colleges through online counselling.
COMEDK sits between the two other routes into a Bangalore engineering seat. KCET fills the state’s share of seats at regulated fees, mainly for Karnataka-eligible students. Management quota is filled directly by each college at its own fee. COMEDK fills the consortium’s share, open to students from all over India, at a fee in between.
COMEDK Eligibility
- 10+2 / PUC or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
- A minimum aggregate in PCM, commonly 45% for general category and 40% for SC/ST and eligible OBC candidates of Karnataka, as per COMEDK’s published norms.
- Open to Indian nationals from all states; there’s no Karnataka domicile requirement.
- A valid COMEDK UGET score for the current admission year.
Always check the current year’s COMEDK information bulletin for the exact rules.
How COMEDK Counselling Works
- Registration and document verification for candidates with a valid rank.
- Choice filling: you list colleges and branches in order of preference.
- Seat allotment: seats are allotted by rank, preferences and availability.
- Decision: accept and pay, or hold for upgrade, or withdraw, within the rules for that round.
- Further rounds: the remaining seats are re-offered. The 2026 counselling was scheduled over four rounds, with Round 3 choice filling opening in mid-August 2026.
- Reporting to the allotted college to complete admission.
COMEDK dates change every year. For 2026 the admit card was issued at the end of April and the answer key in May, with counselling running from July into August. Treat that as a rough guide only and confirm every date on comedk.org.
COMEDK Engineering Colleges in Bangalore
A large share of COMEDK’s participating colleges are in Bangalore. The four colleges we cover in depth all admit students through COMEDK as well as KCET and management quota:
| College | Known For | COMEDK vs Other Routes |
|---|---|---|
| RV College of Engineering | Consistently among Bangalore’s most competitive private colleges | RVCE KCET vs COMEDK vs MQ |
| BMS College of Engineering | One of Bangalore’s oldest private engineering colleges | BMSCE KCET vs COMEDK vs MQ |
| Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering | Wide spread of branches | DSCE KCET vs COMEDK vs MQ |
| Sir M. Visvesvaraya Institute of Technology | More affordable fee band among the four | Sir MVIT KCET vs COMEDK vs MQ |
Beyond these, many other private unaided colleges across Bangalore take part. The authoritative list, with branch-wise seats, is the COMEDK participating institutes list and seat matrix on comedk.org. Some well-known private and deemed universities in Bangalore run their own admission process instead of COMEDK, so don’t assume a college participates until you’ve checked the official list.

How to Shortlist COMEDK Colleges
- Use previous closing ranks as a guide, not a promise. Cut-offs move every year and every round.
- Decide between college and branch. A core branch at a stronger college and CSE at a weaker college are both valid choices, but they lead to different outcomes. Our engineering courses in Bangalore guide explains the branches.
- Fill enough choices. Too few choices is the most common reason good-rank candidates get no allotment.
- Check the round-wise seat matrix before each round, since vacant seats shift as candidates accept, upgrade or withdraw.
COMEDK Fees
COMEDK seats at private unaided colleges carry a tuition fee higher than the KCET fee at the same college, indicatively around ₹2 – ₹3 lakh a year, plus college and university charges. Hostel is extra. The full comparison with KCET and management quota fees is in our engineering college fees in Bangalore guide. Call us for updated details on the current-year COMEDK fee.
What to Do If Your COMEDK Rank Isn’t Enough
A rank that misses your preferred college or branch isn’t the end of the road. Your realistic options are:
- Stay in counselling for later rounds. Seats open up as others upgrade or withdraw.
- Compare with your KCET allotment, if you’re Karnataka-eligible. The KCET seat is often cheaper.
- Widen your college list to include colleges where your rank is competitive.
- Consider a different branch at your preferred college.
- Explore management quota. If you want a specific college and branch that counselling can’t give you, management quota is the legitimate route. Start with management quota admission in Bangalore engineering colleges and check costs in management quota fees in Bangalore.
- Look at universities with their own admission process, explained in direct admission in Bangalore engineering colleges.
COMEDK rules, dates, seats and fees change every year. Always confirm on comedk.org. Admission depends on eligibility, seat availability, institution policy and government regulation.
